Instrumentalists: Bring your instrument and two original copies of music You may consider taking private lessons to further prepare yourself for NYSSMA. It is the STUDENT'S responsiblity to learn the music thoroughly. PRACTICE! Although you will be taught the piece in lessons/Chamber Choir, every student is expected to practice regularly in preparation for the festival. Please follow these guidelines for NYSSMA: The 2021 NYSSMA Festival will be VIRTUAL! If you earn a high rating you will be recommended for local music festivals SCMEA (5-6) and/or HMEA (6-8) the following school year. Practicing for NYSSMA will strengthen your music skills.

#NYSSMA MANUAL PROFESSIONAL#

NYSSMA adjudicators are professional teacher/musicians who have received instruction on the NYSSMA adjudication system.

(Quogue Elementary has the current manual) Students who desire a rating must choose a graded solo from the NYSSMA Manual.Students may compete with themselves from year to year, but NYSSMA does not view festivals as competitive. NYSSMA festivals (other than for All-State) are evaluations, not competitions.Information regarding scheduling & fees will be sent home at a later date.

#NYSSMA MANUAL REGISTRATION#

All NYSSMA registration is done through the student’s school music program.

At solo and small ensemble festivals, students are given a performance evaluation that involves playing a graded solo from the NYSSMA Manual, playing scales and sight reading.

NYSSMA sponsors approximately 145 solo & small ensemble and major ensemble festivals in New York State each spring.

NYSSMA, New York State School Music Association, hosts numerous solo and ensemble festivals throughout the year. Please use these practice tracks for chorus. Please see the HMEA website for more information. It hosts a festival for 6th-8th Grade that includes chorus, band, world drumming and orchestra. HMEA stands for Hampton Music Educator's Association.
